2016 Hope for the Holidays
Fundraising Goal: $15,000
Dates: November 1 – December 31, 2016
In Missionvale township, South Africa, food is a constant concern every day of the year. For the Missionvale Care Center, food is the most difficult commodity to raise money for, yet, it is the most basic necessity and critical for survival to people in Missionvale.
Missionvale USA is committed to doing what we can to provide hope and make the very basic food staples available to the people. The Missionvale Care Center provides approximately 600 food parcels each week to the most needy families in the community. A food parcel consists of a can of fish, can of beans, maize meal, tea bags, sugar, and soap.
For a contribution of $35, you will provide 10 families with a food parcel and ensure they have some basic nutrition to sustain them for a week.
For a contribution of $100, you will give one family the gift of a weekly food parcel for six months.
For a contribution of $200, you will give the gift of a weekly food parcel to a hungry family of four for an entire year.
For most of the families that receive a weekly food parcel to survive, they also come to the Care Center everyday for a half loaf of bread and scoop of soup powder. Between 400-1,000 people line up to receive bread and soup everyday. Even though there are some sustainable programs in place offering alternative food sources, the need continues to be there.
- Children need food to be able to concentrate at school
